Did you know...

Did you know the word (or root word) "thank" or "grateful" does not appear on Jonathan Edward's Resolutions.  I found this somewhat surprising.  I do think he hinted at it a couple times, but never came out and said either one of those words.  Surely it is thorough enough to have come accross that emotion.  I'm interested to hear others weigh in on this one.

October 6, 2007 was a very, very, very, very memorable day for several reasons...but one sticks out.  She said YES.

The Alchemist

This evening I was reminded of alchemistry.  Do you remember those guys in the middle ages who thought that you could take straw & mud and make the perfect recipe to get gold?  [This was supposed to show how far we've come since then, but I think it really shows how far we've fallen in knowledge and in desire since creation.]  Anyway, we always get a good laugh at the alchemists.  We all know that you can't get gold from straw & mud.

But Christ does in a sense.  Somehow he takes our sin and gives us Christ's righteousness.  Yet where does that filth go?  Christ is no longer tarnished by it.  He paid the penalty for it...and if it were possible, He is more glorious for it.  The math, the chemistry....it doesn't add up.  It's alchemistry at work.

Expecting

To Thee I lift my soul, O LORD;  I trust in Thee,
My God; let me not be ashamed Nor foes exult o'er me.
Yea, non that  wait on Thee Shall be ashamed at all;
But those that wantonly transgress, Upon them shame shall fall.

Show me Thy ways, O LORD;  Thy paths, O teach Thou me;
And do Thou lead me in Thy truth; Therein my teacher be.
For Thou art God that dost To me salvation send,
And I upon Thee all the day Expecting do attend.

Thy tender mercies, LORD To mind Thou recall,
And loving-kindnesses, for they Have been through ages all.
My sins of youth, my faults Do Thou, O LORD, forget;
In loving-kindness think on me And for Thy goodness great.
Psalm 25.1-7 metrical version

Choose Life

I was reminded of this passage recently...

See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.  For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws;  then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed.  You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  Now choose life. so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice and hold fast to him.  For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Deuteronomy 30.15-20
